Spring Cleaning For the Busy Woman.![]() Spring cleaning? Who still does that? My mother and grandmother did it but then, they didnt work outside the home, drive carpool, and do all the other things we do in our fast paced society. Besides, mom always seemed so happy when she was cleaning, she liked to do it. I just dont have the time and I dont like it anyway. Sound familiar? Weve all had these thoughts. Weve all felt guilty about not doing spring cleaning like we saw our female family members do. It doesnt have to be hard. You can do it in your spare time in just a few hours a day. Just because mom set aside one specific day to haul out the buckets and sponges, wake everyone up early and put them to work doesnt mean that you have to do it that way too. First, make a list. Set a big picture goal of what you hope to accomplish with your spring cleaning project. Every room, every closet, write down everything you want to do. Divide the list by rooms. In other words, put everything in the kitchen on the list next to each other. Then, pick just one thing from the list. One cupboard, one closet something. That one thing will be your project today. While you are going about your regular every-day household chores, just add this one extra thing. It will only add a small amount of time to your routine. Every day pick something else from the list and do that. Save the bigger projects like the garage for last. Youll be surprised how much you can accomplish this way. It takes longer but it saves you from having to schedule one whole day for cleaning. Keep a running tab of what you have done. Sometimes when you start a project, you find more things that need to be done too. Go ahead and just add them to your list. Theres no time limit here. Just keep moving down the list, youll get there. For bigger projects like the basement, laundry room or garage, divide it into sections. You can make the sections as small or large as you need depending on the amount of time you have available each day. Work on a section at a time. I like to do it by putting everything in the section in one big pile. Once I have my pile, I surround myself with boxes. Sit on the floor next to the pile and just start sorting into the boxes. Before I know it, my pile is gone and all the clutter is organized. Label the boxes, stack them neatly on a shelf or in a corner with the labels showing and your are done with your section. Dividing up your spring cleaning this way may end up turning it into summer cleaning as well but it makes it much more manageable. Another plus is that you get the same sense of accomplishment that your mother got at the end of her big day of cleaning every day after you finish your project for the day. I must admit, its a great feeling to finally cross that last thing off the list. When you get there, take a look around, pat yourself on the back. Mom would be proud. To maintain your spring clean house all year around, try this: Do a quick straighten up in every room every day. Make a schedule of which room you will deep clean on each particular day. For example, On Monday, you will do the kitchen. Quickly straighten up all the other rooms first. In the kitchen, clean your refrigerator, straighten the cupboards and pantry, clean the oven if it needs it, and any other deep cleaning project that is needed. The rest of the week just do a quick straighten up. On Tuesday, it can be the living room. The dusting, polish the furniture, wash the walls, you get the idea. You wont feel like you have done any more work than you normally do but your house will stay spring clean clean all year long. *This article written by Stefanie Cragun This article is written by Stefaniec.
